Sepia : "What’s are dailies?"

Fabrisse : "They’re the raw footage of the day’s shooting. They get downloaded into the computer (these days, this used to be done by hand on a negative) and have their sound synchronised with the movement and stuff. Then the editors select the best line readings or shots that give background information to the viewer and using the script puts together the rough cut (some directors get very involved at this stage, but it’s less common in TV). After that the director and the editor go over it and change things as necessary to fit the director’s vision. After that the producers get to suggest changes, and then the network makes its requests before the final cut is produced. The whole process takes a couple of weeks on top of the filming time.

The last stage to put this all back to film and copy it for distribution and feed in the process called "on-lining." Bear in mind that I’m not the person in the family who’s in the editing suite. *g*"
