Amy Acker & Christina Hendricks - "Game Of Thrones" Tv Series - Season 2 - Details

Saturday 2 July 2011, by Webmaster

"Game of Thrones" season two casting has already begun — "Tudors" veteran Natalie Dormer has won the increasingly important role of Margaery Tyrell already, if you hadn’t heard — which means we’re rapidly running out of time to come up with our own dream casting.

MTV News’ very own dragon with three heads — aka "Thrones" fanatics Terri Schwartz, Kara Warner and Josh Wigler — joined forces to put their casting wish list together for the next season of HBO’s hit fantasy series, based on author George R.R. Martin’s second novel, "A Clash With Kings." Let us know what you think of our picks in the comments section and on Twitter!

Christopher Eccleston as Stannis Baratheon

Why not go with the rumors on this one? The "Doctor Who" veteran is currently rumored to play one of the five kings clashing over the Iron Throne of Westeros, and frankly, he couldn’t be any more perfect. He’s got the right look — tall, brooding and deadly — with the exact same attitude to back up his physical presence. If Eccleston is willing to commit to a whole lot of "Thrones" action, we’d be lucky to have him. -Josh Wigler

Christina Hendricks as Melisandre

Geeks and television snobs alike should all be able to agree that Christina Hendricks is the hottest red head on television right now. And someone with that much sex appeal packed into one voluptuous package would be perfect to play the mysterious Lady Melisandre of Asshai from where we’re sitting. With "Mad Men" on hold for the time being, I can (somewhat) legitimize my far-fetched hope of seeing Hendricks land the role and continue driving nerds crazy like she did as Saffron on "Firefly."
 Terri Schwartz

David Wilmot as Davos Seaworth

Our money has long been on "Stargate Universe" actor Robert Carlyle filling the role of Davos Seaworth in the future seasons of "Game of Thrones," but with ABC snapping him up for their new series "Once Upon A Time," I can’t help but get behind David Wilmot for the role. His audition tapes have leaked online already and, judging by how great he was on "The Tudors," he definitely is someone who can give Davos the Onion Knight the layers he deserves.

Amy Acker as Asha Greyjoy

The longtime Joss Whedon veteran is no stranger to playing snarky, sweet and sadistic all at once, and these are qualities that are absolutely essential in whoever plays Asha Greyjoy, the Ironborn daughter of Lord Balon whose deadly dagger and axe are matched only by the sharpness of her tongue. Watching Acker bring her considerable wit against Alfie Allen’s Theon in that first appearance of hers (which is easily one of my top five favorite chapters in all of the "Ice and Fire" novels) would be nothing short of amazing.

Bonnie Wright as Ygritte

With the "Harry Potter" franchise coming to a close on July 15, little miss Ginny Weasley will be looking for some work. My vote goes for her to join the cast of "Game of Thrones" as fan-favorite (and Jon Snow love interest!) Ygritte the wildling. Hopefully she’ll last as long in the show as she is in the MTV Harry Potter World Cup!

Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth

Brienne is one of my absolute favorite characters in the series- top three, for sure. Her character arc is so beautifully heartbreaking I almost can’t stand it. Because I love her so, this fantasy casting assignment is crazy difficult! Here is the alleged casting call for her character (thanks to a tip from the message boards over at Westeros). Oh, and SPOILER ALERT…

"[BRIENNE TARTH] FEMALE. Age: 20s. A skilled warrior in service to Renly Baratheon. Larger and stronger than most men, we first meet Brienne when she wins a tournament, defeating the famed Loras Tyrell. Big-boned and plain faced, she has an awkward personality, but is also honest and loyal. She is derisively known as "Brienne the Beauty"… RECURRING. (Season Two: 6 episodes/Season Appearances: Multiple Season) Must be a MINIMUM of 5’10″. Do NOT submit actresses that look like models. We are looking for a big, WARRIOR-TYPE woman that’s more MANLY than womanly."

A tall order, right? (No pun intended!) My honest-to-goodness first choice is an unknown actress. I just can’t picture anyone I’ve seen or heard of who fits. And although I love Brienne because of her many lovely characteristics, she is not lovely in appearance, which, when casting someone who fits that for a Hollywood production seems impossible. So unknown, I say!

If forced to choose, I am a big fan of reader/fan supported pick Gwendoline Christie... Only because I saw a picture of Christie dressed down, no makeup, that seemed pretty great. Still a prettier Brienne than GRRM intended, but plenty tall. She’s a good choice, definitely, depending on how much they can beef her up.
