SANDUSKY, Ohio — Producers for the movie, "The Avengers," have reached an agreement to use NASA’s Plum Brook facilities here when filming begins next month, John Pisani, a publicist for the film said.

The movie is based upon a team of Marvel Comic superheroes including Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America and Thor, among others. The star-studded cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson.

The Plum Brook Station has a feature that may be especially appealing to filmmakers: A vacuum chamber that can recreate the cold and airlessness of outer space. It’s believed that is one of the reason’s the NASA facility was chosen as a filming location.

Cleveland Film Commission executive director Ivan Schwarz and NASA spokesperson, Sally Harrington, said they will release information about the filming as it becomes available.

Pisani said filming at the facility is tentatively scheduled to take place in August.

The movie is set to be released on May 4, 2012.
