Beahan doesn’t feel like a movie star (sarah michelle gellar mention)

Kate Beahan may have just landed roles in two Hollywood films, but the Australian actor says she doesn’t think she’ll ever feel like a movie star.

Using her Australian work as a foot in the door, the 30-year-old splits her time between Sydney and Los Angeles where she has an agent and regularly auditions for roles.

"I am kind of pleased with the direction my life is taking," she said.

"(but) I don’t think I would ever feel like a movie star. I don’t think it’s in my make-up."

The Perth-born actor gets so nervous during auditions she’s been told she looks like a deer caught in headlights.

But she has still landed roles in two major Hollywood films, Flightplan, opposite Jodie Foster, Peter Sarsgaard and Sean Bean and an untitled thriller with Sarah-Michelle Gellar.

"I have been told I look like a deer caught in headlights because I get so nervous in auditions that I have to sit on my hands," Beahan said from Los Angeles.

"There was a stage I went through that I think my confidence must have been diminished somewhat and I must have just looked alarmed in these auditions, like I was ready for someone to attack me."

Beahan got her big break playing opposite Eric Bana in 2000s Chopper.

And her string of television credits include Water Rats, Young Lions, After the Deluge and Love is a Four Letter Word.

In Flightplan, released later this year, Beahan plays a flight attendant named Stephanie.

In the film a bereaved woman (Jodie Foster) and her daughter are flying home from Berlin to America.

At 30,000 feet the child vanishes and nobody admits she was ever on the plane.

"My presence in the film is felt but I just say it is a supporting role because I can’t give away the ending," Beahan said.

Beahan said she learnt a lot about the craft of acting by simply observing Foster.

"She (Foster) is very generous with her knowledge," she said.

"Really I thought that I could ask her anything and felt that she would share what she knew and what her experience was."

The untitled Sarah Michelle Gellar thriller tells the story of a successful young business woman who starts having nightmares about someone who was murdered 25 years ago.

Beahan plays Gellar’s best friend and the film also stars Australian Peter O’Brien.

"I am the supportive best friend," Beahan said of the role.

"She (Gellar) goes through some difficult times so I am there for her."

Despite her overseas successes, Beahan is looking forward to some good Australian roles.

"And I still really want to work in Australia because I think there is something to be said for working within your own culture and telling the stories of that culture."
