"Buffy Season 8" Comic Book’s Xander compared to Gavin Newsom & Jennifer Siebel

Keen-eyed Ruth Knapp forwarded an image of the comic cover of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Long Way Home, Part 2. The central figure is the character Xander. But he sure looks like Gavin Newsom (San Franscisco Mayor), and the woman in the background looks like a brunette version of mayoral sweetie Jennifer Siebel.

Jeremy Atkins of Dark Horse Comics, publisher of the series, says the image was drawn by Jo Chen, who lives in New York. She hasn’t answered inquiries about whether Xander is a figment of her imagination or a reflection of a clipping or photo she may have seen somewhere. I sent a copy of the image to the mayor’s spokesman, Nathan Ballard, who said, "It can’t be denied that there is a slight resemblance, but the mayor does not wear an eye patch."
