CNBC serves up ’McEnroe’ - Smallville Tonight

SERIES PREMIERES

10:00 p.m. (CNBC) "McEnroe." John McEnroe, right, will be interesting to watch. Not many celebrities can grasp the idea of listening to others rather than talking about themselves. McEnroe may be one of the few to make that transition comfortably. If the show lets him be himself, and doesn’t force too much scripted material or rants, his personality and curiosity should carry the day.

SERIES

# 8:00 p.m. (WB) "Smallville." The first two episodes of last season are on tonight, with Clark running rampant (thanks to mood-altering red kryptonite) in his future home of Metropolis.

# 8:00 (UPN) "Enterprise." Two episodes are on here, too. The first involves aliens with Wild West ways, the other a clone with a very rapid growth rate.

# 8:00 (TBS) "Family Guy." Beginning tonight, the cartoon series that was rescued by unexpectedly brisk DVD sales returns for a second run, starting out with two back-to-back episodes.

# 9:00 (ABC) "The Drew Carey Show." Guest stars in these two first-run episodes include Fred Willard and Michael Gross.

# 9:00 (Fox) "The Simple Life 2: Road Trip." After last week’s show, the phrase "bull in a china shop" ought to be replaced, as a simile for walking disasters, by "Paris and Nicole in a sausage factory." Remember: Lucy and Ethel were the comic creations of writers, not self-centered brats.

NONFICTION

# 8:00 p.m. (A&E) "Biography." Larry Hagman, once the biggest TV star in the universe as J.R. Ewing on "Dallas," deserves the bio treatment he gets here.
