Comic-Con 2005: Finally, some names to drop (sarah michelle gellar mention)

Monday 4 July 2005, by Webmaster

Either Angelina Jolie or Halle Berry would be a hard act to follow alone, let alone having both show up at Comic-Con the same day in 2003. But last year Comic-Con was able to tout a huge "get" - the notoriously reclusive Sarah Michelle Gellar, best known as Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

This year’s just-released programming schedule doesn’t include any actresses who can command more than $10 million per movie, let alone Gellar’s reputed $2 million salary, but buried in the listings are appearances by actresses Kate Beckinsale, Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron and Rachel Weisz, actors David Boreanaz, Karl Urban and The Rock, key cast members from Lost (Josh "Sawyer" Holloway, Maggie "Shannon" Grace, and Harold "Michael" Perrineau), Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon, and director Kevin Smith.

It’s easy to fixate on the names because there’s so much to Comic-Con it’s hard to condense the massive convention into categories, but for the less-starstruck there are plenty of items on the schedule dealing with science fiction, fantasy and horror across media ranging from manga to motion pictures.

Here are some highlights from the four main days of the event - Wednesday night is preview night and a chance just to see the exhibit hall - for those of you who aren’t necessarily Comic-Con fanatics.

I know I’m skipping over a lot of the comic book-related highlights; I figure the experienced folk already know what goes on and what to look fore.

(As always, the schedule is subject to change and some panels move, so I’m not going to try to give you room numbers.)
