Fans want Star Trek back (buffy mention)

Tuesday 3 January 2006, by Webmaster

They want the Shat back on the telly

A new poll has revealed that sci-fi mainstay Star Trek is the show most viewers would like to see back on air.

One thousand viewers were asked what programme they missed most from their screens, and the most popular response was the show that made the likes of Captain Kirk, Jean-Luc Picard and the odd Klingon geek-cave names.

In fact, the survey by UK interactive TV firm Home Media Networks finds that many of the most popular answers in the top ten are science-fiction shows, either giving an indication of the nostalgic appeal that such programmes hold, or networks’ willingness to ditch cult programmes.

Other fantasy shows to feature in the top ten include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in second, Blake’s 7, The X-Files, Babylon 5, and Stargate.

Of the two remaining genres, the rest of the most missed shows are either comedy or action, with Friends, Fawlty Towers and Seinfeld making up the former, and The A-Team the latter.

However, fans longing for Seinfeld can’t be too disappointed as they do have the show’s creator Larry David’s spin-off, Curb Your Enthusiasm, to get their teeth into.

And while Buffy-ites may miss Sarah Michelle Gellar’s high-kicks, the show’s creator Joss Whedon has been keeping himself busy with the blockbusting Serenity, which was admittedly a spin-off from the cancelled Firefly.

Top Ten Most Missed TV Series
Star Trek
Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Friends
Fawlty Towers
Blake’s 7
The X-Files
Babylon 5
Stargate
Seinfeld
The A-Team

Do the people who carried out this survey know that Stargate hasn’t been cancelled? It’s just been renewed for a 10th season.
