Fast National ratings for Wednesday, July 7, 2004 (Smallville rating)

NBC had Wednesday’s most-watched show, but consistency throughout the night gave CBS a ratings win.

CBS averaged a 5.6 rating/10 share in primetime, beating out NBC’s 5.3/10. FOX took third with a 4.2/8, and ABC was fourth at 3.6/6. The WB averaged 1.6/3 and UPN 1.1/2.

Thanks to "The Simple Life 2," FOX led among adults 18-49 with a 3.2 rating. NBC’s 2.6 was good for second, while ABC and CBS tied for third at 2.3. The WB came in at 1.0 and UPN at 0.6.

CBS led the 8 p.m. hour with "60 Minutes II," 5.9/11. ABC got a solid performance from reruns of "My Wife and Kids," averaging 5.0/9 for the hour. "That ’70s Show," 3.8/7, and "Quintuplets," 3.7/7, put FOX in third. "Next Action Star," 2.8/5, continued to scuffle for NBC. "Smallville" returned to The WB and finished fifth, ahead of "Star Trek: Enterprise" on UPN.

A rerun of "Law & Order," 5.8/10, moved NBC into the top spot at 9 p.m. CBS dropped to second, with "The King of Queens" and "Still Standing" averaging 4.8/8. FOX was right behind with a 4.7/8 for "The Simple Life 2" (5.8/10) and "Method & Red" (3.5/6). ABC slid to fourth with two episodes of "The Drew Carey Show." A second "Smallville" posted a 1.7/3 for The WB. UPN trailed with another "Enterprise" repeat.

At 10 p.m., another "Law & Order" earned the night’s best rating, 7.4/13. CBS’ "48 Hours Investigates" was second at 6.2/11, while "The Ultimate Love Test" averaged 2.7/5 for ABC.
