Monday 5 April 2004, by cally

Fast National ratings for Thursday, April 1, 2004.

After keeping its Thursday regulars on hold for two weeks of NCAA basketball coverage, CBS let loose the dogs of war, better known as "Survivor: All-Stars," "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Without a Trace."

Overall, CBS won the night with a 13.5 rating/21 share. NBC was second with an 11.5/18. Miles back in third was ABC, which had a 4.6/7 for the night. UPN was fourth with a 3.2/5, while FOX’s revamped Thursday failed to make a ripple at 2.7/4 in fifth. The WB trailed with a 1.7/3.

NBC won the April Fools demographic race, scoring an 8.2 rating among adults 18-49, narrowly beating CBS’ 7.8 rating. ABC’s 2.3, UPN’s 1.7 and FOX’s 1.6 rating followed. The WB again trailed with a 1.1 rating in the coveted demographic.

CBS began the night in the lead as "Survivor: All-Stars" had a 12.7/20 for the 8 p.m. hour. NBC got a 9.2/15 average out of a repeat of "Friends" and "Will & Grace." On ABC, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" did well enough for third, topping FOX’s "Tru Calling," which claimed fourth with a 3.4/5. UPN’s "WWE Smackdown" was fifth with a 3.2/5, better than the numbers for "Steve Harvey’s Big Time" and "Like Family" on The WB.

At 9 p.m., CBS stayed in front as "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" earned a big 16.2/25 for the hour. NBC stayed a competitive second with the 12.9/20 for "The Apprentice." Third went to the 4.6/7 for ABC’s "Extreme Makeover," which left UPN’s "Smackdown" in fourth. Moving to Thursday didn’t provide the necessary tonic for the FOX’s "Wonderfalls," which fell to a 2.1/3. The WB remained in sixth with the 1.6/3 average for two episodes of "The Jamie Kennedy Experiment."

NBC won the night’s final hour as "ER" took a 12.5/21, edging CBS’ "Without a Trace" at 11.7/19. ABC was third with a news special.
