HMS Hosts The Sisters Q&A (sarah michelle gellar mention)

Saturday 8 April 2006, by Webmaster

Arthur Allan Seidelman, Richard Alfieri and Matthew Rhodes will be among those fielding questions after the Hollywood’s Master Storytellers advance screening of The Sisters.

On Tuesday, April 11, Hollywood’s Master Storytellers gives Los Angeles audiences the opportunity to get a special advance look The Sisters, the critically acclaimed ensemble film inspired by Anton Chekov’s timeless masterpiece. Emmy Award-winning director Arthur Allan Seidelman, writer Richard Alfieri and producer Matthew Rhodes will be joined by a few of the members of the cast, still to be determined, at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatres Complex in Hollywood.

The Sisters tells the story of four siblings who live in a college town and struggle to banish the ghost of their father and reconcile their own relationships. The drama features an all-star ensemble cast, including Maria Bello, Eric McCormack, Erika Christensen, Chris O’Donnell, Tony Goldwyn, Steven Culp and Elizabeth Banks.

This event marks the return of Hollywood’s Master Storytellers’ "Preview Edition" program, which presents both studio and independent films prior to their official theatrical release. "We successfully tested this concept last year with our presentation of Modigliani featuring actor-producer Andy Garcia. Our audience loved the opportunity to see an outstanding movie before anyone else and to hear Andy talk about his passion project," said Gordon Meyer, Hollywood’s Master Storytellers’ creator and host. "I’m confident that our audience will be equally enthralled by this passion project that has earned rave reviews at so many prestigious film festivals, including the Tribeca, Austin and Hollywood Film Festivals."

The Sisters began as a play originally presented at the Pasadena Playhouse that was written by Alfieri and directed by Seidelman, who also directed Mark Hamill and Rue McClanahan in Alfieri’s play Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks on Broadway. It’s a long-standing creative partnership that continues with the film In the Shadow of Wings, now in production and starring Oscar-nominated actors Virginia Madsen, Joan Plowright and Tim Roth.

Producers Matthew Rhodes and Judd Payne own Persistent Entertainment, which also produced the critically acclaimed drama An Unfinished Life - starring Morgan Freeman, Jennifer Lopez and Robert Redford - and the upcoming sci fi comedy Southland Tales starring The Rock, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mandy Moore and Hollywood’s Master Storytellers alumnus Kevin Smith.

According to Nadine Hamdan, one of Hollywood’s Master Storytellers’ executive producers, The Sisters is an unflinchingly honest drama with comedy that explores and explodes the myths of family and friendship. As three sisters and a brother recall the simpler life the family left in their childhood home, they peel back the layers of their pretensions and self-deceptions with wit and candor escalating to moments of shocking power. "I was absolutely mesmerized watching this amazing cast in a very human drama about family, ambition and devotion."

The Hollywood’s Master Storytellers presentation of The Sisters - featuring a live discussion with writer Alfieri, director Seidelman, producer Rhodes and select cast members - takes place on Tuesday, April 11, at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatres Complex, located in the Hollywood & Highland complex. Upcoming Hollywood’s Master Storytellers events include the 25th Anniversary celebration of Clash of the Titans - featuring live appearances by producer Ray Harryhausen, actor Harry Hamlin and author Ray Bradbury - on Wednesday, April 19.
