Supernatural drama Hex has been recommissioned for a second series, Sky One confirmed today.

The show - billed as a British version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer - has pulled in ratings of almost 1 million in its Sunday night slot, easily beating all other multichannel offerings.

Crucially, it has also developed a strong cult following and has a core audience amongst key demographics. "Hex has had a huge impact with a dedicated and upmarket audience," a Sky One spokesman told the Media Guardian. "It has really created a buzz and spawned numerous spinoff fansites and chatrooms on the internet."

The first series, which ran for just five episodes, will come to an end this weekend. The second will last for a more sizeable thirteen episodes; filming is due to begin next Spring.

A DVD release is planned for January.

Hooray! Even though I live in the US, I’ve gotten very interested in it...not really buying it as "The next Buffy," but it looks very promising. I Hope Buffy.nu will continue to post the episodes so US fans can see what’s up!

YES YES YES!!! I have loved this show. It is soooo awesome. It is totally far off from Buffy!!! Nothing like it at all. Just the fact that there is a vampire in it. But very different from the buffy vampires. I can’t wait for the next episode!!!!!
