Howard and Karen Baldwin, the producers of Ray, the Oscar-winning film about the life of Ray Charles, have turned their attention to the late comedian Rodney Dangerfield. Famed for his catch phrase "I can’t get no respect," Dangerfield made his name as a stand-up comic with an array of sharp one-liners, as well as appearing in films like Caddyshack and Back to School. Variety reports that the Baldwins will base their project in part on Dangerfield’s memoir It’s Not Easy Bein’ Me, which was published four months before he died last October, aged 82. They also acquired life story rights from his widow, Joan.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, best known to British audiences as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is set to star in Alice for Universal Pictures. Based on a computer adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s classic novel Alice in Wonderland, the film will be directed by Marcus Nispel. Erich and Jon Hoeber will adapt the screenplay. Gellar, who appeared in The Grudge, will next shoot Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales.
