Jane Espenson - "Buffy Season 8 : Riley" Comic Book - She will write this one shot

Saturday 27 March 2010, by Webmaster

Been an interesting time to be a Buffy fan. And believe me, an interesting time to be a Buffy editor.

Today the Dr. Horrible iPhone app went to the top of iTunes’ sales chart, and the first issue of The Guild comic came out to rave reviews, especially for Felicia’s transition into writing comics. Next week Zack Whedon’s first issue of Terminator comes out, and I urge you all to check it out. He’s doing great work there. The main event, though — it’s a couple weeks yet till Buffy #34 comes out, and if you thought #33 stirred the pot, you ain’t seen nothing yet. We’re all bracing for it . . .

Joss just directed his episode of Glee, which you mostly all know about thanks to Neil Patrick Harris’s tweets, if nothing else, and now he’s working on the Buffy #37 script. Jane’s wrapping up the Riley oneshot script now — fans expressed some surprise that Riley’s getting a oneshot, but it seemed like the best way to flesh out how he came to be the double agent for Buffy in Twilight’s camp — and it’ll shed a little more light on Twilight’s whole scheme. You can look for that in August, with art by Karl Moline, and covers by him and Jo.

There’s been some confusion over the schedule, so here’s a quick rundown of the next few months in the Whedonverse of comics:

May — Buffy #35, Brad’s last issue June — Serenity: Float Out written by Patton Oswalt July — much needed break for San Diego August — the Riley oneshot September — Buffy #36, Joss writes the final arc of Season 8

Sorry about July, but we really needed it, to head into the climax. Hope you can stick with us!

Peace,

Scott Allie
