Joss Whedon - "Batman 3" Movie - Producers are looking for a director...

Batman 3 Directors

The only thing we can do to pass the time until Batman 3 is continue to help The Dark Knight in its efforts to mint money. Well, that and search the internet for all things on when Nolan and company will gear up for the third installment.

IGN Movies recently ran a piece regarding Warner Bros. offer for Nolan to deliver his Gotham hat trick, which got us thinking: What happens if the director doesn’t come back? Who should - or could - step into his very powerful and very talented shoes? IGN Stars dared to speculate on which Hollywood helmers could do the Bat justice.

Joss Whedon and J.J. Abrams

Fanboys cannot leave off their fanboy picks. Mission: Impossible III is a great movie for a first time feature director to deliver, and Whedon’s Serenity, well, is Whedon’s Serenity. ’Nuff said.

With the former helping to create nearly everything good on TV recently, and the latter giving us an entire universe devoted to brooding vampires and drama networks like the WB and UPN didn’t earn but are lucky to have, one of them could pull off Batman’s third movie.

However, neither one of these storytellers seems as "disciplined" as Nolan; their shades of dark are have to go as black as the man who killed Rachel Dawes and burned Harvey Dent. Sure, Batman 3 could be the movie that pushes them to those limits, but as much as we love them as fans, the third film should not service as their training wheels.

Whedon can go darker, edgier, than Abrams; see Buffy Season 2 or Angel (all seasons) for proof. But Abrams has a better grasp of the epic scope the big screen craves. Maybe the two of them can have some weird hybrid geek clone...or maybe we should just stop right here.

Nolan has to come back, right? If not, our trusty magic 8-ball says one of the above could do the job while simultaneously keeping us anxious with anticipation. So flip Harvey’s coin and cast a vote in the poll for the most Bat-capable of the bunch.
