Joss Whedon - "The Office" Sitcom - Season 3 - On The Set - Staff Report

Last week was a fun one for The Office.

Joss Whedon directed. It was great! He’s funny, quirky and he knows exactly what he wants out of a scene and/or actor. as an aspiring director myself, this was an extraordinary week for me to sit back and watch and absorb.

Plus, every now then, he and I would talk comics.

Doesn’t get any better than that.

I wish I had a lengthy prose describing in detail what his process was like or what I actually absorbed while watching the man work. But I don’t.

It was the most laidback week of working on this show I’ve had in a longtime. And I’m certain it was because Joss Whedon came in and kicked ass.

It was simply, just fun.

Oh... here’s an anecdote.

My mom is a massive Joss Whedon fan. I am a professional admirer, but she is a FAN. I have yet to dive into the universe of Buffy and Angel but those shows are mymom’s other religion. Last Thursday was her birthday. How rare is it that I’m working with Whedon the week of my mom’s birthday? When would the stars ever align like this again? I did what any good son would do. I gathered my courage, sat down with Joss at lunch and asked him if he’d say happy birthday to my mom over the phone. He didn’t even give it a second thought. Moments later, I dialed her up and handed him the phone. Not only did he wish her a happy birthday, but he proceeded to talk with her for nearly 5 minutes. This simple gesture on his part, which he DIDN’T have to do (and I would’ve absolutely understood), has pretty much guaranteed me MANY good Christmas’ and birthdays to come.

Thanks Joss!
