LONDON (Reuters) - Martin Scorsese’s mobster movie "The Departed" held on to top spot in the box office charts over the weekend, keeping "The Devil Wears Prada" down in second place, according to Screen International figures on Tuesday.

Starring Leonardo di Caprio and Jack Nicholson, The Departed took 1.45 million pounds, against 1.35 million for Meryl Streep’s portrayal of a ruthless New York magazine editor.

Third was a new release, "Barnyard," the animated story of a farm on which the animals party hard when humans are not around.

Fourth, down one, was another animated comedy, "Open Season," about a bear and a mule deer joining forces against hunters.

New at five was horror movie "The Grudge 2," starring Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Sarah Michelle Gellar unearthing the chilling past of an old people’s home.

Down one place at six was the film version of Alan Bennett’s play about inspirational teaching, "The History Boys," while up four places at seven was Kevin Costner in rescue swimming adventure "The Guardian."

Eighth, down four places, was "Click", starring Adam Sandler as a man whose life is taken over by a TV remote while new at nine was "The Last Kiss" in which a group of 30-year-olds face adulthood as their parents ponder middle age.

Tenth, down from seven, was the updated reworking of Little Red Riding Hood, "Hoodwinked."
