November 20, 2006 - Nathan Fillion, known to most as Mal from Firefly and the Serenity film, sat down with IGN late last week and chatted about his work on PJ Haarsma’s The Softwire book series (interview coming soon). Fillion voiced the first three chapters of the book The Rings of Orbis and we’re happy to present them now, free and exclusively for IGN readers.

Haarsma met Fillion at a nightclub in Los Angeles several years ago and the two became fast friends. "We realized that we were both Canadian and shared a love for Halo. For two years we battled each other in Halo every weekend. Nathan knew me before I even started writing The Softwire so as a close friend he was involved from the very beginning," Haarsma said.

As for the audio you are about to hear, Haarsma said he pitched the idea to his publisher about having Nathan perform the audio. "They loved the idea but publishers are slow so Nathan and I recorded the chapters ourselves to give them a taste."

When he heard the performance, Haarsma said "I got goose bumps. Sitting in the studio, listening to my friend reading the words I wrote, it’s hard to describe how awesome it felt."
