Sarah Michelle Gellar

The former "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" star, Sarah Michelle Gellar is in talks to appear in the much highly anticipated sequel to Mortal Kombat 2: Annihilation.

Gellar is rumored to play Sonya Blade, becoming the third actress to take on the role. In the first film, Bridgette Wilson (who was cast as Gellar’s sister in 1997 slasher-flick, "I Know what You Did Last Summer") was the infamous Sonya. The second film saw Sandra Hess (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) as the new and improved Sonya Blade.

Essentially skipping over the events of the second film, "Devastation" reunites the cast of the original - Christopher Lambert as Rayden, Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage, Robin Shou as Liu Kang, and Chris Casamassa as Scorpion with Talisa Soto to reprise their roles as Kitana, respectively - with the remaining parts being cast as we speak.

Both Hess and Wilson have declined the opportunity to reprise their roles as Ms. Sonya Blade, showing sings of promise for Mrs. Gellar to reprise the role.

The film is being developed by Mink ["Into the Sun"] and Threshold Entertainment. The Asst. Producer is Neil James.

Filming will begin in May.
