Joss Whedon’s cult sci-fi TV series Firefly gets new life in this western-styled thriller that chronicles the adventures of a rickety spaceship’s crew in a hostile future. The setting is the 26th century in the aftermath of a war whose winner (the Alliance) controls a colonized solar system while the losers (known as the Independents) wander about the perimeter planets. This includes the crew of the rebel spaceship Serenity, a contentious group who find themselves on the run from an Alliance operative and other assorted dangers after they pick up a young doctor and his telepathic sister who holds great value to the sinister Alliance. Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin and Chiwetel Ejiofor lead the cast in this "old-fashioned space opera" (Roger Ebert). Written and directed by Joss Whedon.
