’Robot Chicken’: coming to Bravo

LONDON - Men’s entertainment channel Bravo will begin showing Turner Broadcasting’s US animation strand Adult Swim this summer, including Seth Green’s ’Robot Chicken’.

This is the first time Adult Swim’s content, aimed at 18- to 34-year-olds, will be shown on a third-party channel. Turner intends to replicate this throughout Europe.

The strand will run late on Bravo seven days a week, with an animation showcase on Fridays.

Jonathan Webb, director of programmes for Bravo, Trouble and Challenge, said: "I am a massive fan of Adult Swim and this is a major coup for Bravo.

"While other channels are filling their late night slots with low-grade, late-night quiz shows, Bravo is committed to investing in quality animation to make the channel the ultimate post-pub viewing destination."

Adult Swim includes animation such as ’Robot Chicken’, created by Green, who played Scott Evil in the ’Austin Powers’ trilogy and Oz in ’Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, and ’Aqua Teen Force’, a show about three anthropomorphic fast food items.

Bravo will also acquire and co-produce UK animation, which will be shown as part of the Adult Swim programming.

Alan Musa, vice-president for Adult Swim, said: "Animation has never been an art solely geared toward kids and for the past five years Adult Swim has outperformed in its rating.

"In the US in the first quarter of 2006, Adult Swim was ranked number one on total day delivery of men 18-34 and men 18-24 among all ad-supported basic cable, according to data from Nielsen Media Research.

"We believe that, in the UK too, Adult Swim will become appointment viewing for adult fans of smart, funny television."
