Adult Swim turns leaf blower on racism

US cable channel Cartoon Network is using its Adult Swim block to debut an original commission about a group of ethnic minorities led by a wheelchair-bound genius who fight evil racial stereotyping.

Minoriteam, created by writer Adam de la Peņa (The Man Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live), artist Todd James (Crank Yankers) and Peter Girardi of animation shop Funny Garbage, debuts in the Adult Swim Saturday- to Thursday-night block on March 19 at midnight.

Having piloted in November to good numbers, the 20-part series follows a group of superheroes who use stereotypes to fight stereotypes.

[SB alchemy 5] Led by Asian Dr Wang, the group includes the fastest man on the planet, a Jew who can turn into a volcano, a Mexican who fights crime with a leaf blower and an Arab convenience store clerk. Their adversary is White Shadow and his henchmen Corporate Ladder, The Standardized Test and Racist Frankenstein.

In other news, a second 10-part season of Seth Green and Matthew Senreich’s stop-motion series Robot Chicken begins on April 2 in the 23.30 slot. The show, which launched in February 2005, targets pop culture icons and is aimed at adult and male audiences aged 18 to 34.

Later this month, the first 20-episode season of Robot Chicken, which starred the voices of Scarlett Johannson, Burt Reynolds, Ryan Seacrest, Mark Hamill and Macaulay Culkin, will be released on DVD.
