Roush Room ASK MATT

Monday, December 8, 2003 Question: Tru Calling? We get Tru Calling? Of all the Fox-killed shows of the past two years that had at least potential - usually good writing, good acting, interesting plots and premises - such as Firefly, John Doe, Futurama, to name only three of a long list, Fox decides to give Tru Calling a chance? Don’t get me wrong. I love Eliza Dushku - but not enough to watch this show. What happened? Did Fox realize that it has nothing else? I mean, I don’t wish the people involved in Tru Calling to be unemployed - although I do wish for improvements from at least some - but Tru Calling? Why? - Samantha L.

Matt: Usually I get aggravated comments when a show is cancelled. With Tru Calling, I’m hearing a lot of outrage about Fox picking it up for a full season. What a riot. I have no good explanation for this decision, especially in the wake of Fox’s speedy axing of Skin. All I can figure is that Fox has to run something in this terrible Thursday time period, and rather than trying to relaunch some other doomed prospect there, it will let this one play out and maybe develop into something the cult-oriented audience might grow to like. Which I think is pretty doubtful. The full-season pickup surprised me, but I’ll be amazed if it gets renewed for a second year. That would really be unlike Fox.
