Twilightgate Day 5 - the Dark Horse Dispatch to retailers

Confirmed: Buffy Spoiler All About The Sales – And They’re Maturing

In the recent Dark Horse Dispatch sent to retailers, Buffy The Vampire Slayer editor Scott Allie wrote;

Word got out that Twilight, our major villain from Season 8, is in fact Angel, the love of Buffy’s life. This is causing major buzz on the Internet. I was on CBR today, and on Monday Joss will be on MTV’s Splash Page to comment on this-we want to get behind this and use it to drive sales as we enter the climactic arcs.

Is it me, or did word get out… because Scott Allie did the CBR interview? But yes, it looks as if sales were the driver for this particular reveal. Scott added;

I told Brad Meltzer I was writing to you guys, and he wanted to thank you for giving him his success in comics, and to make sure you understand that what he’s doing in his four issues could bring sales back to where they were when the series started.

Buffy has always been good at getting non-comics readers into your stores-I know some of them have stopped coming in, but this arc, and the buzz that’s already started on the Internet, will get them back.

The buzz that you started Scott! But there’s more in foot for that particular issue. Buffy is going Mature Readers!

When you see Diamond Previews for Buffy #34, there’ll be a mature-themes notice. That doesn’t mean the book won’t be safe to sell younger readers-no more nudity than that great Faith cover from Buffy #9 or the Willow one-shot cover, no blood beyond what you’re used to in the book-but the story gets so intense Brad told me we had to warn people.

I’m warned! Are you warned? What about you? And you? Consider us warned, Scott, consider us warned!

Thanks for all the support you’ve given this book, and all the support you’ve given Dark Horse through the recent economic hard times. This next run of Buffy should help us all.

You know what, if only Obama would really get on board promoting Buffy #34, we would solve the economic problems of the world like that!
