STAR-STRUCK. Celebs from around the world descend on the Cannes Film Festival, opening today with the world premiere of The Da Vinci Code. Twenty films will compete for the festival’s top prize, the coveted Palme d’Or, three from U.S. directors: Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, Richard Kelly’s Southland Tales, and Richard Linklater’s fictional adaptation of Eric Schlosser’s bestseller Fast Food Nation. Other screenings not vying for awards include DreamWorks’ animated Over the Hedge and the global-warming documentary An Inconvenient Truth, featuring Al Gore. Film buffs left behind in the States will have to make do by following reports from the red carpet, sure to be full of the requisite glitz, and wait for their favorite flicks to make it to the local cineplex.
