"Yes, sir, Captain Tightpants." - Kaylee

The Whedonverse Multimedia Project seeks to donate Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel the Series, and Firefly DVDs to public libraries and other charitable organizations.

To begin our campaign, fans were asked to nominate the hometown libraries of the producers, writers and actors from the show. Once all the nominations have been fulfilled, the Project will provide DVDs to the requesting libraries on our waiting list. Additional nominations will be accepted after the completion of donations to these libraries.

Jewel Staite is the next nominee on our list.

Born in White Rock, BC, and then moved to Maui at age 6 months, Jewel Belair Staite has certainly has some interesting life experiences.

She made her first public appearance at age 2 in the Maui County Most Beautiful Baby Contest. At 4, she moved with her family to Vancouver, British Columbia. At six, she was offered a modeling job and to appear in a video for Sears. She refused until she learned she would would get lots of pretty clothes.

It wasn’t long until she caught the acting bug and made the Vancouver Youth Theatre her second home. At age 14, she had a guest spot on the X-files where her character received mouth to mouth from Mulder, played by David Duchovny.

Whedonverse fans know her as Kaylee, the mechanic on the ship Serenity from Joss Whedon’s TV show Firefly.

Jewel continues to live and work in Vancouver today, unless her acting work takes her out of town.

As a tribute to Jewel’s fine work on the show, the Project would like to donate at least 5 copies of Firefly DVDs to the Vancouver Public Library.

All donations to the Project will be used toward purchasing DVDs for public libraries and other charitable organizations. A card announcing the donation will be sent to Jewel along with the names of those who contributed.
