Star rating : * *

Doctor Chris Finn is on his way to a job interview, and takes a detour on a mountain road when he finds the highway closed. Big mistake. He’s involved in a collision with a group of 5 campers out for the weekend. Both cars are damaged so one couple remain with the cars while Chris and the rest (Jessie and recently engaged and madly in love couple Scott and Carly) start walking towards what they hope is civilisation. Instead they find themselves hunted by a group of men who have apparently degenerated into mindless savages due to the inbreeding that went on amongst these mountain families.

Wrong Turn tries to be ’Deliverance’, one of the characters even mentions the movie. But sadly, despite the usual attractive cast and feisty performances, particularly from Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Eliza Dushku, and Six Feet Under’s Jeremy Sisto. this just does not work. There are a few tense moments, and a couple of gory ones with high ’yuck’ factor. But the surprises are non-existent, there’s very little tension, and I knew exactly who was going to die and who was going to get away.
