Zap2it’s Showdown of the Network Stars Down to ’Elite Eight’

Thursday 2 October 2003

Showdown of the Network Stars Down to Elite Eight (Wednesday, October 01 11 :58 AM)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Say goodnight, Joey.

"Friends" star Matt LeBlanc was one of three higher seeds to fall by the wayside in the latest round of Zap2it’s Showdown of the Network Stars. "CSI" star William Petersen, like LeBlanc a No. 2 seed, No. 3 Patricia Heaton ("Everybody Loves Raymond") and No. 4 Bernie Mac ("The Bernie Mac Show") also went down.

Heaton and Mac lost to "Tru Calling’s" Eliza Dushku and "The O.C." star Benjamin McKenzie, respectively, in the Mountain time zone. That sets up an all-underdog, all-FOX match in the Elite Eight, with the winner moving on to the Showdown Final Four.

The WB is also assured of a spot in the Final Four, as Lauren Graham ("Gilmore Girls") will face David Boreanaz ("Angel") for the Central zone title. Boreanaz’s co-star, James Marsters, is also still alive (or dead, as the case may be). More than 20,000 votes were cast across the four regions in the Sweet 16 round. The two remaining No. 1 seeds, "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston and defending champ Jennifer Garner of "Alias," continued to score big wins over their opponents.

Aniston defeated Garner’s TV dad, Victor Garber, by a count of 3,562 to 2,507 in the Pacific time zone, while Garner dispatched Rob Lowe ("The Lyon’s Den"), 3,446 to 1,950, in the Eastern.

Voting in the Elite Eight round is open now and will continue until Tuesday (Oct. 7), when the Final Four pairings are announced.
