Peters’ Dreamscape Cinema wraps “Angst,” third feature in three years for Champaign company

Michael Muhney stars in “Angst”

Robin Peters of Based-based Dreamscape Cinema wraps production in mid-July on his third feature in three years, the independent comedy-drama “Angst.”

Peters’ co-writer Michael Muhney (“Veronica Mars”) stars as a an insensitive young actor who goes undercover as an old man to land a role in a Broadway-bound play, and is forced to learn respect for his elders to rebuild his life and relationships.

“It’s like ‘Tootsie’ or ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’-they don’t know he’s not old,” Peters said. “We got incredible performances all around” from a cast that includes Eddie Jones (“The Terminal”), Pat Morita (“The Karate Kid”), Max Gail (“Barney Miller”), Adrienne Frantz (“The Bold and the Beautiful”) and Amber Benson (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”).

Peters, who writes and directs under his first and middle name Robin Christian, raised the under-$500,000 budget from private investors.

He plans to wrap post within six months and directly approach studio contacts for distribution.

“We’ll shoot for a theatrical release,” Peters said. “We’re very confident we’ll get video and cable down the road. We’re doing high quality films with great character actors that will carry the story.”

DP John Luker (“White Fang”) started shooting in Champaign and Chicago June 19 on Dreamscape’s HD camera.

Production designer is Wes Tabayoyong (“Outing Riley”). Editor, Shadie Elnashai. Associate producers, Ian Goldberg and Greg Wolf. Makeup, including aging effects, by Maria Garcia with assistance from Lisa Clark.

Steffany Huckaby stars in “Disconnect”

Peters is shopping a recently completed rough cut of “Disconnect,” the supernatural thriller he shot last year starring Steffany Huckaby (“The O.C.”), Jones, Holmes Osborne (“Anchorman”) and Muhney.

He wrapped post in January on the 2003-shot 9/11 family drama “The Crab Orchard,” which stars Ed Asner (“Lou Grant”), Judge Reinhold (“Beverly Hills Cop”) and Ruby Handler. Handler’s husband, longtime still photographer Michael J. Jacobs, made his directorial debut with producer Peters’ script.

Peters is developing several more feature projects, including “The Leach of Liverpool,” based on the life of one-time Beatles impresario Sam Leach. “But job one is selling the films I have,” Peters said.

Peters formed Dreamscape Cinema in 2001 as an offshoot of Dreamscape Design, his 20-year-old multimedia and commercial and corporate video production company.
