Sarah Michelle Gellar, a name synonymous with versatility and enduring appeal, began her illustrious career in the entertainment industry as a child. Discovered by a talent agent at a young age, Gellar’s screen debut came at the tender age of six with the television film "An Invasion of Privacy" in 1983. Her early promise led to a leading role in the teen drama series "Swans Crossing" in 1992, but it was her portrayal of Kendall Hart on the ABC soap opera "All My Children" (1993-1995) that earned her a Daytime Emmy Award and catapulted her into the limelight.

SMG’s true claim to international fame, however, was her iconic role as Buffy Summers in the groundbreaking series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997-2003). Her performance not only garnered her five Teen Choice Awards, a Saturn Award, and a Golden Globe nomination, but it also cemented her status as a cultural icon. Sarah Michelle Gellar’s filmography is equally impressive, with box office hits like "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (1997), "Scream 2" (1997), "Cruel Intentions" (1999), "Scooby-Doo" (2002), and "The Grudge" (2004) collectively grossing over $570 million globally.

Beyond her cinematic successes, Gellar has made her mark on television, headlining shows such as "Ringer" (2011-2012), "The Crazy Ones" (2013-2014), and "Wolf Pack" (2023). She has also lent her voice to popular series including "Robot Chicken" (2005-2018), "Star Wars Rebels" (2015-2016), and "Masters of the Universe: Revelation" (2021).

In 2015, Gellar ventured into the entrepreneurial world by co-founding Foodstirs, an e-commerce baking company, and published her own cookbook, "Stirring Up Fun with Food," in 2017. Gellar is also known for her close-knit family life, married to actor Freddie Prinze Jr. since 2002, with whom she shares two children.

Sarah Michelle Gellar’s commitment to her craft is matched by her dedication to personal growth and unique experiences. An accomplished martial artist, she studied Tae Kwon Do for five years, alongside kickboxing, boxing, street fighting, and gymnastics. Her dedication to authenticity in her roles is evident, such as her commitment to doing her own stunts in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," though she admitted her limits during filming "Scream 2."

Her career is also marked by interesting anecdotes, such as her role in a 1982 Burger King commercial, which led to a lawsuit from McDonald’s and a temporary ban from their establishments. Notably, she dyed her naturally brunette hair blonde for her role in "Buffy," and legally changed her last name to Prinze as a surprise for her husband on their fifth anniversary.

Sarah Michelle Gellar’s legacy extends beyond her on-screen roles, encompassing her work in philanthropy and her reputation for safety and professionalism on set. She remains a beloved figure in Hollywood, admired for her talent, dedication, and the breadth of her contributions to film and television.

  • I keep thinking "She looks so right for this part"

If it hadn’t been for JW’s casting of Buffy, this might have been a biographical documentary...?

    Just a recurring thought..

  • That’s awful! I’m sure SMG would have done something other than prostitution had she not hit it big with Buffy. Christ, she was 19 when she was cast, maybe 18. She graduated high school at 16. She had plenty of time to go to college if the acting things wasn’t working out & do anything. That was just rude.
  • To the anonymous poster who posted the first comment, that is a stupid and ignorant remark to make. You might want to consider growing up.
  • Some people just shouldn’t voice their thoughts out loud. Sarah’s good and convincing actress. And She won the role of Buffy, because she was the best one for the role. She’s one of the main reasons the show was so successful. And by the way, she would never have become a real porn star - it’s just not part of her nature or personality - Keep in mind her personal band against being nude on film.
  • Hee! Everyone takes everything so seriously over here! I’m so amused by the first comment... but yeah, outside of Buffy I do believe SMG has no real acting talent, and her unwillingness to give the series or Joss any credit for making her a star makes me glad that one day she’s going to wake up and realise she’s a total has-been with a total a**wipe for a husband :D *hugs*
  • Her talent can’t just magically disappear "outside of Buffy". That made absolutely no sense. That’s like saying "outside of snowboarding in California, this snowboarder has no snowboarding talent". The person obviously still has talent but he/she might experience conditions in other places which cause them to snowboard poorly. You can’t blame Sarah’s lack of great material on her as an actress. That’s just lame.

When has she never not given BtVS or Joss any credit? What crack are you smoking? Have you never read an interview with her ever? She consistently says great things about the show and about Joss as a creator. Get your information correct and get a freakin’ grip.

Honestly, some of you are so idiotic.

  • *Ahem* what I meant to say, then, is that my love for the show allows me to overlook her acting ability- I don’t care how well or badly people act in the Jossverse, as long as I’m getting a fix. And ’Sarah’s lack of great material’? The Grudge and Harvard Man were primo movies! And finally, where the hell have you been? There is known animosity between Sarah and Joss, as interviews with many of the writers reveal. Sarah, apparently, believes that Buffy’s success was mainly due to her, and she feels Joss has not acknowledged this- so in a mature display of schoolyard retaliation she refuses to give the show total credit for her success. Honestly, without Buffy, SMG would be stuck in daytime tv and in made for tv movies like... that swiss family robinson thing... she wouldnt be given the opportunity to go for big roles in which to suck ass.
  • "No real acting talent?" WTF? To the anonymous prats on 20th and 24th April - maybe you should piss off to another website??
