Having watched several of the miniseries/features that SCIFI have produced, i wouldn’t consider it a bad thing at all.
Battlestar Galactica was the most outstanding of all. The effects were great and were done by the same company that did Firefly/Serenity. And it was so successful as a pilot that we’ve had two seasons of Battlestar as a TV show, and SCIFI have signed on for a third.
Effects-wise, Zoic Studios already has serenity built, and considering there’s no major aliens/robots (the weak point of the Battlestar miniseries), it should be fine.
