The small miracle of Judd Apatow’s The 40-Year-Old Virgin is that it played by the rules of a frathouse sex comedy-the inexperienced nerd hero, the cadre of guys pushing him into action, ample T&A and raunchiness-but it tweaked them with knowing humor and underlying sweetness.
