Continuing the trend of remaking Japanese horror hits, this benefits enormously from retaining the original director (Takashi Shimizu) and location (Tokyo).
A consistently chilling atmosphere prevails, punctuated by effective shocks (two corkers before the opening credits are over) which helped make the film a big international success. This may just mark the arrival of Sarah Michelle Gellar as a proper movie star...
