Raising the Bar — an early look
TNT's original dramas are kind of hit or miss for me. I'm absolutely in love with The Closer, but have zero interest in Saving Grace, despite its good reviews and Holly Hunter's Emmy nomination. It was while I was watching The Closer that I saw the ads for Raising the Bar, TNT's newest series, which premieres on Monday, September 1 at 10 pm. I've got to say, I had the same reaction when I first saw promos for Saving Grace: "meh."

The vampire drama Angel featured its fare share of hunky dudes, from the noble hero (David Boreanaz) to the conniving villain (Christian Kane). Thrown into the mix at the end of season 1 was J. August Richards as Charles Gunn, a street smart tough guy who wanted nothing more than to dust some vamps. The side of Richards we'll see in the new TNT drama Raising the Bar is more akin to Gunn from the final season, when he got book smart and became a lawName.

The prosecution never rests, even in bed
Conviction, a series about hot young New York prosecutors, is not, sorry to say, the next great legal drama. It's merely the next - as in (sigh) yet another.
What a weird little mutant this show is, too, with Law & Order's Dick Wolf shifting gears, trying to mimic David E. Kelley's style. It's not a good fit. A far cry from Boston Legal or even The Practice, this is so clumsy in its mix of the procedural and the personal that it (...) - Reviews

Question: I'm a big fan of the Law & Order franchise (more of Law & Order: SVU than the original), but I was wondering what the chances are that the new series Conviction will survive on Friday nights. Trial by Jury didn't do very well in that time slot, and, speaking as a future prosecutor, I'm very optimistic about this show.
