When Dark Horse picked up the Buffy license, lo those many years ago, I was not yet a fan of the show. By the time the Angel show launched, not only was I the editor of the comics and a fan of the show, but I also had the opportunity to plan the launch of the comics with the help of Joss Whedon, in one of our first collaborative efforts.
