Sarah Michelle Prinze and husband Freddie Prinze Jr. are parents, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.

The couple "welcomed their daughter Charlotte Grace Prinze on Saturday, Sept. 19," says a rep for the actress. "The family is over the moon."

This is the first child for the couple, who revealed that they were expecting back in April.

Freddie Prinze Jr. will star on the upcoming season of 24. Sarah Michelle recently changed her last name from Gellar to Prinze.

She may be only four months pregnant, but Sarah Michelle Gellar's baby bump is growing at a rapid pace.

The Buffy The Vampire Slayer actress, 32, showed off her burgeoning belly yesterday as she enjoyed a spot of retail therapy in New York.

She looked a picture of maternity chic in a floaty £365 sundress from Elizabeth & James, the diffusion line designed by twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

The expectant star is currently busy filming a pilot of new TV show The Wonderful Maladys, but took time out to shop with friends on Thursday.

Dressed for comfort in the flowing gown, blue cardigan and sandals, Sarah looked like she settling into pregnancy well.

The star and her friends popped into the Diane Von Furstenburg store in Manhattan's trendy Meatpacking district.

It was announced last month, Sarah and husband Freddie Prinze Jnr, 33, were expecting their first child together - said to be a girl - but the notoriously-private couple declined to confirm it.

A friend of the couple told People magazine : 'They're very excited.'

But given these latest pictures of Sarah, there's no denying she's pregnant.

Two years ago, Sarah admitted she wasn't quite ready for children : 'You can't be selfish and have a child.

'Right now I want to live my life and have fun. I want to go sit in my Jacuzzi and drink wine all night.'

Her Buffy co-star Michelle Trachtenberg, who played her young sister, said : 'I was jumping for joy (when I found out). We talk every other day. I'm super excited.

'I'm so very happy for her and Freddie. She's going to be an extraordinary mom. Good people make great parents.'

Sarah met her future husband Freddie on the set of the 1997 horror flick I Know What You Did Last Summer.

They also starred together in the two film versions of Scooby Doo.

They didn't started dating until 2000 and were married in a lavish ceremony in Mexico in September 2002.

Although she is best known by her birth name, the actress legally changed her name to Sarah Michelle Prinze in honour of the couple's fifth year of marriage in 2007.

Her most famous acting role was as the character Buffy Summers in the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off Angel.

Expectant celebrity parents, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr., will be having a baby girl. Star Magazine, which is the first to bring the matter to public's notice, reports the actress has been overheard excitedly talking about her unborn daughter on the New York City set of her new TV series "The Wonderful Maladys."

"She's been letting little details slip here and there," a source who happens to be on the set testifies. Besides, Star Magazine also reports that gossips are claiming the pregnant actress has "been spending her free time planning the nursery" in the TriBeca apartment she shares with Freddie. Furthermore, it is said "Sarah wants the room to look sophisticated, so nothing too frilly or princessy. She's been shopping for earth tones to mix with plum or magenta accents."

No evidence has been provided to support the baby's sex claim though. In the meantime, there is still no denial nor confirmation from both Sarah and Freddie.

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. first met during the filming of the 1997 teen horror film "I Know What You Did Last Summer." However, it was not until three years later that they began dating. They were engaged in April 2001 and married in Mexico on September 1, 2002. News of them expecting their first baby was exposed by the media early last month.
