Nathan Fillion Wants To Be The Greatest American Hero

The Greatest American HeroAfter graciously losing the role of Green Lantern to Ryan Reynolds, Nathan Fillion has been openly campaigning to play another superhero, The Greatest American Hero.

In this 1980's TV show that premiered with a two-hour movie pilot, a school teacher finds a suit that grants him superhuman powers. Fillion told MTV that he feels Greatest American Hero, believe it or not (yeah, we did just write that), is "ripe for a comeback." Fillion added, "I know I'm Canadian, but I think I could put my hat in for that one."

This is not the first time Fillion has mentioned the role. He told IFC earlier this month that Greatest American Hero was his dream project, He even had some ideas about how technological advances could enhance a newer version.

With the technology we have available today for effects, I'd say it's largely the same idea, the same story, but the suit would be able to change and morph into whatever it is you needed him to do. So it could become armor, a scuba suit — you could do that stuff.

The stars of The Greatest American Hero have even visited the set of Castle, Fillion's TV show.

I actually met both William Katt and Robert Culp on the set of Castle. They're friends of one of our executive producers' fathers. We have the same stunt coordinator from The Greatest American Hero, so every time you saw William Katt take the fall from his flying stuff, it was our good guy Dennis [Madalone]. So I've got my all my fingers in the right pots.

Should the role ever come together, we don't doubt that Fillion will be "walking on air." (Yeah, we know, "groan.")

THE SKINNY : On Monday, October 19th Richard Castle, aka Nathan Fillion appeared at the Barnes and Noble at The Grove for a book signing for the release of his new book HEAT WAVE.

CASTLE is a top rated ABC show, which is about a mystery rider, Castle who gets a favor called in by the mayor to follow around Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) for his new book HEAT WAVE. The character of Nikki Heat is based on Beckett.

In the actually book, the story is about a superstar magazine journalist, Jameson Rook who is assigned to Heat by the New York commissioner to ride along with her to research a article on New York's Finest. But as they unravel the murder, she must also confront the spark between the two of them. Which is so like what is happening on the television show.

And if you watched Monday night's show they also held a launch party for HEAT WAVE and the fact that Castle, was offered a deal for three more books in the Nikki Heat series. So I guess we should expect three more books to be released.

Upstairs at Barnes and Noble, it was packed full of fans of the show and of Nathan's. Just about every book was sold-out I heard. After Nathan (and Stana, who unfortunately didn't come to the signing) went to DANCING WITH THE STARS he arrived where the Q&A and signing would be. The fans applauded when he arrived. Taking the stage Fillion spoke for a few minutes and introduced Seamus Dever (Detective Kevin Ryan), Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Captain Roy Montgomery), Executive Producers : Rob Bowman, Andrew W. Marlow (also a writer), Laurie Zaks, and Armyan Bernstein who showed up to support Fillion.

Fillion then asked for questions from the fans. Almost all the questions were about CASTLE, except for one fan that asked if Captain Hammer would ever happen again. Turning to Andrew W. Marlowe, who came up on stage to answer some of the questions, Fillion said “a non-Castle question.” And the crowd laughed.

Finally Fillion and all the others posed for photos. And Fillion started the long evening of signing.

This just in : ABC picks up 'Castle' for full season

Castle-Fillion_lIt's the news Murder, He Wrote Castle fans have been waiting for : ABC has picked up the Nathan Fillion dramedy for a full, 22-episode season !

The second-year show has been holding onto a decent chunk of its Dancing with the Stars lead-in, so the back-nine order wasn't a total surprise. Still, it's nice to get the official confirmation !

That brings to five the number of shows ABC has given the full-season green light to. In addition to Castle, the net has picked up The Middle, FlashForward, Cougar Town, and Modern Family.

Here's an exciting sneak peek at an upcoming episode of Castle. The special Halloween episode finished filming recently and this image appeared online. It looks like our loveable Richard Castle is dressing as a Browncoat, looking oddly similar to a character from Nathan Fillion's past !

If ever there was a reason for Firefly fans to start watching Castle, this is it. Tell your friends. Castle airs Monday nights at 10/9 central on ABC.

"Castle" Tv Series has a Firefly Easter egg. Is this it ?

This past Friday, Nathan Fillion made mention the following cool tidbit for anyone who's a fan of Fillion or Firefly (actually you're probably a fan of the other if you're the fan of one, because that would just be really weird and, come on, it's Nathan Fillion. You know, Captain Hammer. Bam, said the lady.) Apparently there's a Firefly “Easter egg” on the set of Castle :

Oh, the gauntlet is thrown, Mr. Hammer !

I used the magic of Hulu to skim through four or five episodes of Castle, seeing if I could come across anything that stood out as a prop from the set of Firefly. First of all, I decided not to look at anything other than Castle's apartment, as that would be the most logical place someone would throw a call-out to Firefly and I didn't want to drive myself crazy trying to look everywhere else.

Next, I thought to look for something from Inara's shuttle, since Castle's apartment has that sort of feel to it (y'know, in a cool Asian, artsy way, not in the “I'm a fancy futuristic whore” way). There is an Asian decor piece near Castle's entryway that I don't recall seeing anywhere on Serenity, but that's about it.

Finally, when I was about to give up, I saw the scene pictured above, from Castle's office. It's certainly not a prop from Firefly, but is it … a firefly, as in Lampyridae ? Not a set piece, but could be considered an “Easter egg,” possibly ?

Alright, it's a bit of a stretch, as I'd more expect to see a prop from the set of Firefly over something like this. Have any of you seen something else that's more conclusive ? Let's hear it !
