Actually I think that cover looks pretty nice. Lies somewhere in between the US poster (likewarm) and international poster (awesome). I can deal with it. Besides, Rivers eyes are mesmerizing in that. :D

I like the cover......

Wednesday 2 November 2005, by AA :

Are you kidding me? That cover looks like some crappy-ass straight-to-DVD sci-fi cheesefest, and anyone who looked twice at it wouldn’t even THINK of buying it. It neither reflects the look, nor tone of the movie, and I for one think it should be changed to something far more in keeping with what we saw on the Firefly box sets, or the European poster.

Wednesday 2 November 2005, by Anonymous :

oh my gosh. Now there’s a petition to have the cover changed? Please! Be grateful for what you are getting, and don’t make the world sorry that you were given a movie in the first place.

Wednesday 2 November 2005, by Anonymous :

Yeah, that cover’s great. What’s the problem?

Wednesday 2 November 2005, by James G :

I think the cover looks fine. Anyway its the inside that matters the actual dvd which contains the wicked movie. Why do people have to be so dame picky the cover may not suit everyones taste but whatever they do some people will not be happy. James from UK

More Moaning from the browncoats!! Ahh!!!

Wednesday 2 November 2005, by Anonymous :

the cover is great... what are they complaining about?

Thursday 3 November 2005, by Anonymous :

Seriously, do Browncoats do anything but whine??? I used to be a fan of Firefly.. and I say USED TO BE. Browncoats have made Firefly something I’m embarrassed to be assosciated with. So thanks, LOSERS!

Thursday 3 November 2005, by Anonymous :

It’s funny, because when the Firefly series came out on DVD everyone complained how it looked like photoshoped fan art. Now the Browncoats are complaining about the Serenity DVD saying it should look more like the series DVD. WTF?

Thursday 3 November 2005, by Anonymous :

I agree with AA. The cover art looks bad. Why don’t they just use something similar to the US promotional poster?

Thursday 3 November 2005, by Vince :

Agreed. I am a Browncoat, and I cannot believe the whining. The cover looks great. It’s a design that will catch your eye on the shelf. It does not need to reflect the movie as those who loved the movie will buy it no matter the cover. The first thing you see is that bright Serenity logo, then your eyes are drawn right to River. Personally, I think it’s a skillful design.

Considering the box is gonna sit on your shelf, does it really matter?

Thursday 3 November 2005, by Anonymous :

Something tells me this petition comes from the "Greedo shooting first" crowd. I can’t believe there wasn’t a petition because of some outfit Mal wore in the movie. Oh crap, now I’ve given someone an idea.

Thursday 3 November 2005, by sicklittlemonky :

OH MY GOD!!! You people need to let it go!!! I am a Firefly fan and a Browncoat, but considering the actions and attitudes of the Browncoats, I don’t think I’m going to be associated with them anymore. You make us all look like lunatics!! In the end, its just a movie, you people need to recognize that!! I loved the movie, and I’m quite sad there likely won’t be anymore, but I also have a life.....you should try it.

Thursday 3 November 2005, by Watchall :

There’s NOTHING wrong with the cover.. I think it’s gotten to the point now where some people will start a petition to get themselves in the news. (not saying that’s whats happening here) but you have to be care-full. Too Many petitions and people in the high places won’t take you serious. But back to the cover... It’s got all the right colours to grab your eye on the shelf of a shop or rental store. The DVD release will be BIG, big in enough that Universal pictures will be likely released Serenity 2 & 3 direct to DVD as Universal have had big direct to DVD release hits in the past. (The tremors movie series ) . Relax a little, everything will be fine....:)

Thursday 3 November 2005, by AA :

A DVD’s cover is pretty integral in hooking in casual buyers, and if it looks like some lame Sci-Fi channel-made movie, then people are not going to give it a second look. I myself (and probably most other fans) don’t feel that bothered what it’ll look like on my shelf, because I know the quality of what’s inside, but what I do worry about is putting off potential buyers because it’s so damn fugly.

And if people are so bloody embarrased to be Firefly fans, just because of an online fan community, then I guess that just says a lot about your own self-confidence, why should you stop liking something, just because other people are fanatical about it? There are a scary amount of crazy fanatic Christians out there, but I don’t see people saying they’re embarrassed to be associated with God, do you?

Also, I myself had no idea people disliked the box set art, as I’ve always felt it was classy and attractive, so if that comment was levelled at me, then it’s invalid. All I want is for the cover art to be more appealing to a regular Joe, looking for an intelligent new take on the genre, and this art does not represent that.

Saying "OMG!!111 Liek stop whynin’ an let it go alredy!!!11one" isn’t going to make anyone want to shut up, it just encourages people to carry on pleading there case, if you want us to be quiet, don’t say nothin’ at all.

And one question: Wtf is a Greedo?

Thursday 3 November 2005, by Anonymous :

What’s a browncoat??

Thursday 3 November 2005, by Anonymous :

For God’s sake, let it go. And yes, AA, I know that rational appeals to your sanity won’t have any effect on you or your buddies. If you had any real sense of what’s important or valuable in life, you wouldn’t be so upset about something so trivial. Why do you think that so many of these posts are anonymous? Because people know that if they leave any sort of contact info, they’ll open themselves up to an unending stream of criticism from hardcore Browncoats, who apparently have nothing but time. You’ve taken something that was fun, and turned it into a refuge for obsessives. I used to be proud to tell people I was a Firefly fan. Now, frankly, I’d rather not be associated with you people.

"There are a scary amount of crazy fanatic Christians out there, but I don’t see people saying they’re embarrassed to be associated with God, do you?"

Sorry, I’m an athiest largely because of the way Christians behave.

"What is a Brouncoat?"

Browncoat (broun kOt), noun - A person obsessesed with Firefly who also has an antisocial personality disorder, manifested in aggressive, or amoral behavior without empathy or remorse.

Speaking as a DEDICATED Browncoat, I apologise from all of us. I swear to you guys that we’re not all ungrateful, arrogant idiots who’re trying to play God. Some of us are actually grateful for the movie we have and aren’t petty enough to create a petition over a DVD cover, of ALL things.

Please, please, please, don’t tar us all with that dirty brush.

Friday 4 November 2005, by Anonymous :

I’m not a browncoat but I have to agree with them on this. I think the artwork makes it look like like a low budget straight-to-DVD "B" movie. I think casual consumers might be turned off by it. It’s true that there are things far more important things in the world but that doesn’t mean this isn’t worthy of some discussion or concern.

Saturday 5 November 2005, by Reasonable :

Yeesh. I’m a Browncoat, more or less - that is, I’m a big fan of Firefly and Serenity, and I think it’s a shame that the movie didn’t do better at the box office. And I agree that the DVD cover looks cheesy and makes Serenity look like a soulless, disposable shoot-em-up, which it really isn’t. But I also have a sense of perspective, and can see how ridiculous it is to write a petition for something that in the grand scheme of things is pretty insignificant. So where does that leave me?
