Angel convention huge hit

Tuesday 6 May 2003, by Webmaster

Nearly 3,000 fans descended upon Blackpool for the UK’s biggest ever Angel convention - End of Days.

Alexis Denisof, Amy Acker, J. August Richards, Andy Hallett, Vincent Kartheiser and many of the show’s supporting cast entertained crowds for nearly three days, with guest talks, photo shoots and autograph sessions.

Amy, who has just got married, even changed her honeymoon plans so that she could attend.

A particular treat was the event’s MC - none other than Buffy Big Bad Glory. Clare Kramer stayed in truly evil character for much of the time, even brain sucking organiser Sean Harry in the opening ceremony.

Hits of the show were undoubtedly Andy Hallett and Alexis Denisof. Alexis was thrilled to hear that he’d been voted onto the shortlist of future James Bonds. "It would be a dream come true for me," he said. "Pierce [Brosnan] has one more film to do, but in two years, maybe we’ll see."

Hallett had an extra-special treat for attendees. Thanks to the talents of Angel Make-up supervisor Dayne Johnson, he was transformed into Lorne for a record-breaking photo shoot. Over one thousand fans were snapped with the green karaoke king - at a rate of one every 7.5 seconds. This apparently trounced a previous record set by James Marsters at the 2002 SFX Event.

Andy also helped raise a huge amount of money for the Make a Wish Foundation charity by flashing his tattooed thighs to the audience - a very popular part of the weekend.

Joss Whedon, planned as a surprise guest, had to drop out at the last minute, due to "one of his projects being greenlighted". He instead sent an achingly funny video message, taking attendees on a tour of his offices. The big whiteboard in his office detailing spoof season five story arcs including ’Kill Wesley’ drew huge laughs. Well, maybe not from Alexis...
