This coming Tuesday, November 15th, sees the release of Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Chosen Collection: The Complete Series, a 40-DVD set which contains every episode from the main television series, plus every extra previously released on Buffy DVD season sets. Additionally, there is a new bonus DVD included, plus a signed letter from creator Joss Whedon and an exclusive booklet filled with episode listings and memorable quotes from the show.
But fans who want to buy this great collection from Amazon.com have been mystified the past couple of days, because the pre-order listing at the mega e-tailer has mysteriously stopped working recently. As you can probably see, it says "We’re sorry, but information for this item is currently unavailable". We have readers who are upset and scared that this means the entire release may have been cancelled. Let us assure you that it has not been cancelled! Fox has verified that it is still on-the-way for this Tuesday, and the studio is going to look into why the Amazon listing has been removed. Here at TVShowsOnDVD, we’ve also taken the step of contacting Amazon directly and asking about this, and they are referring it to the proper people and we’re waiting for a response. Other online retailers, such as DVDEmpire.com, DVDplanet.com, BestBuy.com and even Amazon’s Canadian branch all still show the set is up for pre-order. We’ll let you know what’s going on with Amazon.com just as soon as we can.
One theory, though, besides the obvious glitch- and human error-related possibilities, is that Amazon may have sold through all of the available stock they had be allocated. Don’t forget, this item is a limited collector’s item, with each box being individually numbered, so it could simply be that Amazon had "x" number of copies they had been told they would get, and when they reached that number of pre-orders they possibly removed the listing so that they would not be in the position of offering copies of a title that they would never be able to provide. That would make sense. Is that what the situation is? We don’t know...all of that is just guesswork on our part!
