  I agree that the movie wasn’t nearly as good as the TV series, and that Fran Rubel Kuzui was a fool to listen to Donald Sutherland instead of Joss Whedon for all the tweaks she made to Joss’ script. But it’s still a concept that originated with Joss Whedon, and there are many, many moments in the movie that are trademarked Joss Whedon moments. It’s not all bad, and taken with a grain of salt, it serves as a wonderful backstory for the series itself.

  I also recommend the graphic novel "The Origin", which is the movie re-told to make it parallel in tone to the TV series.

  Since becoming an avid (rabid?) BtVS fan, it might be interesting to revisit the movie and compare. I saw it when it came out and was not impressed. It seemed to be written by committee. I sat there wondering, ’why should I care about any of these nitwits?’ I much prefer full-strength Joss.

  Parenthetically, remember Rutger Hauer’s performance in Blade Runner? I’ve always thought of him as an actor who gives the director exactly what s/he wants. Ridley Scott had a vision of a near future dystopia. What was Kazui’s vision? Laverne and Shirley with a body count?

  Do Fox think that they’ll see how popular it is before they make a buffy/Angel up to date movie? Why? It’s already been on video for years and on the tv (England). Joss was never happy with it, what does he say?
