Buffy The Vampire Slayer

"Beer Bad" is a befuddling low point in an otherwise excellent season of television. It’s hard to believe the same people who created "Hush" - a successful experiment in nearly-silent television and one of the best episodes of anything, ever - created this beer bomb. It’s ham-fisted, preachy about things I don’t think Joss Whedon is even actually concerned with, and... just not that entertaining.

Buffy is treated badly by a love interest at college (like most college kids at some point) and nurses her wounds with too much beer (like most college kids at some point), turning into a total neanderthal (like most college kids at some point). In Buffy’s case, the transformation is literal. She literally becomes a cavegirl through warlock-cursed beer, which means she loses her hairbrush and the articles of her sentences. Get it? It’s a metaphor! So, kids, don’t drink beer when you’re away from home for the first time - especially if you’re doing it to escape your problems - or your hair will look terrible.

I think that’s what we were supposed to get out of "Beer Bad." God knows I didn’t learn anything else.
