why we like him?

Few actors have the dark, brooding intensity of David Boreanaz, who makes his presence felt every moment he’s on the screen. But despite his moody characters, friends and family describe him as friendly, humorous and selfless. Ever since he appeared on People’s list of the 50 Most Beautiful People in 1999, he has garnered millions of female fans — something for all of us to aspire to.

why is he famous?

His first break came with a guest spot on Married... With Children, and his TV career has taken off since. Thus far, his biggest claim to fame has been his long-running role as Angel on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, but he’s destined for more success in both TV and film. In 2001, he starred in Valentine alongside Denise Richards and Katherine Heigl. Other credits include a voice-over role in the video game Kingdom Hearts and an appearance in Dido’s White Flag music video. Since 2005, Boreanaz has starred on FOX’s hit drama Bones.

overall rating

From struggling actor to primetime hero, David Boreanaz remains active and diverse. He has loads of onscreen charisma, which was evidenced by his first big role as Angel in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He even turned that supporting role into a show of his own; Angel ran from 1999 to 2004 and solidified his rocketing career. He continually uses his deep personality and chiseled looks to endear his fans, and so far it has worked.

He’s taking advantage of his starring role as Special Agent Seeley Booth in Bones, in which he costars with Emily Deschanel, to display his previously hidden diversity. An example of this can also be seen in his starring role opposite Anne Heche in Alan Cummings’ black comedy Suffering Man’s Charity (2006). Some people also forget his theater background, which includes Hat Full of Rain at the Ensemble Theatre, and roles in Italian-American Reconciliation and Fool for Love on the Gardner Stage. He may not have the most recognizable name out there, but give it time — Boreanaz has an outstanding resume, a definitive personality and an undeniably bright future.

personality & talent

Boreanaz may have to avoid being typecast in the future due to his successful portrayal of dark and intense characters, but his background certainly indicates top-notch skill. His work, ranging from the stage to voice-overs to the big screen, is proof that Boreanaz is fully capable of depicting a wide variety of characters. Interviews have shown him to be a somewhat soft-spoken yet personable man, both courteous and receptive to questions and discussion. Despite a divorce from Ingrid Quinn, his private life isn’t loaded with Hollywood tumult, either. Boreanaz married gorgeous actress and model Jaime Bergman in 2001, and on May 1, 2002, they had a son, Jaden Rayne Boreanaz.

Boreanaz also starred in two independent films in 2006, and it’s clear that he’s not content with a few TV roles. His desire to keep working in various venues and his cordial personality will likely pay off; we’ll only see more examples of his talent and performing ability as time goes on.

woman magnetism

There’s no question that the ladies love Boreanaz. Just about every woman in America took notice of his electrifying role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and he landed on People’s prestigious list of the 50 Most Beautiful People in 1999. He raked in a ridiculous number of fans, and by 2004, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fanzine ranked him No. 2 in the Top 10 Sexiest Men of the Buffy/Angel universe. In addition, in 2005, TV Guide placed Boreanaz at No. 21 on its list of the Top 25 Greatest Teen Idols. Yeah, but what’s the icing on the cake? His wife, Jaime Bergman, was Playboy’s Playmate of the Month in 1999 and the magazine’s 45th Anniversary Playmate. Yes, David’s woman magnetism is abundantly clear.

accomplishments & fame

Boreanaz is certainly best-known for his roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, but his current stint on Bones could eventually be just as big. People may only equate him with TV stardom for the time being, but his credits range widely. His filmography includes Valentine (2001), I’m With Lucy (2002), The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005), These Girls (2005), The Hard Easy (2005), and Mr. Fix It (2006). Disney Interactive and Square-Enix Inc. utilized Boreanaz’s voice for its popular video game Kingdom Hearts in 2002, and he even appeared in Dido’s White Flag music video.

As long as he continues to be motivated and determined, David Boreanaz will likely land even larger roles in the future. His interest in film could spark a shift from the small screen to the big screen, but provided Bones remains popular, don’t expect him to disappear from TV anytime soon.

coolness factor

Boreanaz has been lucky to land roles that hinge greatly on the coolness factor, and thanks to characters Angel and Agent Booth, he has a serious amount of appeal. His dark and relatively mysterious characters greatly enhance this factor; it always seems like something is brewing beneath his calm and composed surface. Combine everything and you realize that Boreanaz constantly holds a significant tinge of slickness and unpredictability. What makes him even more intriguing is that he appears very different from the personas he portrays on screen, and people gravitate toward such a contrast. There’s no doubt about it — David Boreanaz is setting himself up for a career laced with glacier-like cool.

personal style

David Boreanaz usually comes across as a dark version of an Abercrombie and Fitch model, which is perhaps as an indirect result of the characters he portrays. His good looks give him an edge, and he doesn’t fall into either the bad-boy category or the moody “don’t talk to me” Colin Farrell type. Boreanaz walks a fine line here, and so far he’s doing a good job of keeping his balance. He blends perfectly into his roles, and when you see him elsewhere, you instantly recognize him.

Secret Wish

To be invited to his wife’s next Playmate birthday bash.

quote

“Shooting a television show can be very difficult and at times can really wear on you. If you keep reminding yourself that it is a job and you show up together as a team and as a whole, you can prevail.”
