Canada | Run time: 92 min. | Director : John Hazlett

Three teenage girls choose an unsuspecting older man (David Boreanaz) for their sexual awakenings, a situation which turns out to be much less enjoyable for him than one would expect.

Keira, Glory and Lisa are best friends in a small coastal town in the Eastern Canadian province of New Brunswick. Keira torments her dad by saying she is not going to college, Glory is in love with the idea of love and marriage, and Lisa is a born-again eagerly looking forward to Bible college. They face a long, boring summer with no suitable romantic prospects in sight — until the arrival of Keith (David Boreanaz, looking appropriately irresistible), a 32-year-old, pot-growing, married slacker hunk. His nurse wife, Sue, works four night shifts a week, necessitating frequent babysitting assistance for their adorable infant. When Keira and Lisa discover that Glory is being taken care of by Dad while taking care of the baby, they decide that Keith should take care of them, too. As all three choose Keith for their sexual initiation, life-long friendships dissolve and reason becomes a stranger. The three teens find a fair and equitable resolution to their dilemma...fair and equitable for them, anyway. In what at first seems an enviable position, Keith instead finds himself in a situation beyond negotiation. While the girls map out their accommodation, Keith needs some accommodation of his own. This amiable “what-I-did-the-summer-after-high-school-graduation” movie pits the total self-absorption of youth against the survival skills of maturity. Keith’s escape plan costs more than he expected, and lessons are learned all around. Maybe. Based on the play by Vivienne Laxdal, These Girls is a pleasant romp down memory lane, through the raging hormones of adolescence and the indefatigable compulsion of want defined as need. — Ann Yarabinee
