Firefly - ’Serenity’ Movie - Aintitcool.com Review

Somebody in Australia Gives SERENITY 4.5 Stars!! I am - Hercules!! Joss Whedon did say something about Australia, did he not? We’ll build an all-American amusement park there! “Macccca” opines:

Hey there, long time reader, new poster, blah blah all that jazz.

I managed to see serenity last night at the Sydney test screening. It was pretty complete, a few FX missing and some music out of place but it was very near final.

Thoughts on the movie? I’m not going post any spoilers for you, with the 10 US screenings not far it, the best thing I can do is leave you all with an open slate to view the film.

I’ve been a firefly fan from the start. Joss is a genius. Buffy. Angel. Firefly. The best TV out there. Now that’s a lot of hype. My expectations for this flick were huge. I had so many ideas in my mind, they have to explore this, and they have to do that!

So, what happened?

I was absolutely blown away. It was just so amazing. It surpassed all my expectations and even though I didn’t think it was possible, gave me that much more respect for joss, the cast and the crew of firefly.

For people who have seen firefly, a lot is answered and for people who haven’t, they might have a hard time getting their head around a few things but there is a damn fine movie for anyone to enjoy.

The interaction between the characters was mirrored from the TV show; the one-liners hit the spot every time. The effects have been improved with the budget and the story offers enough answers to satisfy yet poses more questions to keep us curious.

what did it for me was the perfect harmony of comedy and drama, there were quite a few points where the whole audience was united in tears of laughter, and other where everyone was on the edge of their seats, eyes wide, mouths open.

See the movie. Its great.

I didn’t think it were possible for my expectations to be met but this went so much further.

I would have to give it ****1/2, but that may be upgraded for the final product.
