Glenn Quinn - Findadeath.com Biography

Tuesday 16 August 2005, by Webmaster

Glenn Quinn

Ireland born Glenn was Mark on Roseanne, and played Doyle on Angel as well as other roles.

Glenn was also the co owner/silent partner of a club called Goldfinger’s which is just a couple of doors down from the PLA BOY liquor store in a particularly grubby area of Hollywood, mentioned in the Ed Wood story. Here is the back view of the bar, which I plan to check out soon.

The good folks at www.celebritycollectables.com sent me the autopsy report for this story, thus making it available for us. A fascinating document, and perfect for the death hag on your Christmas list.

Glenn had a booze and drug problem for quite some time. He lost his last job on Angel because of it. It appears that he was on a downward spiral, and according to some sources, he lost the house be bought from his Roseanne money. He was bought out in his night club venture, because he was begging for money from customers, getting in to fights and just being an all around embarrassment. The last straw for Glenn was being kicked out of rehab (Wavelengths in Malibu), for using drugs. This was a few days before he died.

Glenn was living the "transient" lifestyle, staying with friends, and on December 2, 2002, he was staying with his buddy Dwayne in North Hollywood. The apartment was on the ground floor, and Glenn was sleeping on the couch. Glenn and Dwayne spoke around 10pm, when Dwayne went to bed. At some point, Glenn had shot up heroin. Dwayne woke the next morning, saw Glenn sleeping there (he thought) and went out to run some errands. Upon his return around 11am or noon, he took a closer look at Glenn.

I think that the reporter from The Globe put it best when he wrote, “The Irish born actor was proud of his heritage, sporting the tattoo Erin Go Braugh (Ireland Forever) on his right shoulder and one of an Irish harp on this left. But the hunk was a mess - with a chalky drool oozing from his mouth and mismatched socks on his feet - when his cold corpse was found on a couch of a friend’s North Hollywood apartment.”

Dwayne lived in this apartment building in North Hollywood, just a stone’s throw from the glamorous Beverly Garland Hotel. In fact, at the end of the street where Glenn died, there was some lovely flowerage courtesy of The Bev. On a positive note, the coroner deemed the apartment “clean and furnished.” That had to make Dwayne’s mum proud, offsetting the fact that a junkie overdosed on her son’s couch.

Cause of death, Morphine Intoxication. An overdose of heroin. Accidental. Just an FYI, heroin shows up as morphine in autopsies. He was only 32. Autopsy reports are revealing.

Apparently he left behind some financial troubles as well. Michael Fishman, who played D.J. on Roseanne, put out a plea for people to send donations to help cover the funeral costs. Sad considering that Glenn probably made more in a year than most "average" people make in a decade, and he pissed it all away on drugs. He had serious demons.

He was taken to the Luyben Family Mortuary and embalmed. A funeral was held, and Sara Gilbert and Johnny Galecki (Darlene and David on Roseanne) attended. Glenn is buried in Forest Lawn, Cypress - in Orange County.

My pal Kim from GravesRUs sends us these pictures of Glenn’s final resting spot. His original marker was quite modest, but since its been replaced with a more suitable one. Thanks Kim!

Trivia: Glenn gave Gwyneth Paltrow her first on screen kiss in a movie called Shout.

Drugs are bad, mmkay?

Thank you so much for posting this article - What a sad life story, but I am very glad to learn just a little bit of his life. Loved him on Angel - if there is a better place upon our death here on earth, I sure hope he got there.

It’s so sad that he ended up like that - he was so talented. At least he was never forgotten in Angel and will never be forgotten by Angel fans.

I agree with all of you it is sad I really liked his character on Angel and have always wondered if he hadn’t passed away if they would have brought him back for an episode. I know his charactered died but this is joss whedon so "dead" doesn’t mean much.

It all very sad - Doyle was a wonderful character he had such warmth and a kind of everyman quality which was rare in the glamous place that was the Buffy/Angel verse. You have to wonder what demons he had that drove him to drugs in the first place. I’m also surprised that there isn’t mention of David Boreanz and Christian Kane attending his funeral or trying to help him out as they were both friends of his and both of them talk about him in the commentary for "You’re Welcome".

Am I the only one that finds this in bad taste? Is it really necessary to air these kind of things and make things that are private and no doubt upsetting to those who loved and were closest to Glenn especially his family very public indeed. Glenn should be allowed to rest in peace - God bless you Glen x

I totally agree with your opinion. I could not have said it better myself. I hope he found the redemption that he was looking for. I have to say that I have grieved for him quite a bit, as I am sure many people have and feel that this was not necessary. I say God bless you too Glenn and I hope to meet you up in heaven.

He was not fired from Angel b/c of his drug problem. Even before Joss gave Glenn the job, he told him Doyle was going to die in the 9th episode. Joss has said that many times b/c of those rumors. Everybody loved Doyle!

I certainly did not find this in bad taste, at all. It kindly written, susscinct, but not overly simple.

I did know what happened. I heard an interview with David Boreanaz (& Jimmy M), where David had added "God rest his soul" after saying his name in response to some question.

I think spectulating on why he left Angel, would be in bad taste. (The Joss told him before started, after 9 eps...)

I could speculate, but instead I’ll say, AI was the beiest... The rats were low...It says rats...

(also, if Dave B had wanted "us" to know about any of this he would said by now, leave him people, eh?)

Opps, sorry wanted to echo, the way Doyle went out, the episode "Hero"; a tribute to the people who were trying to help him. In the name of self-sacrifice, helping family & helpless, plus getting the girl (while she still had the great hair)...

(any reason other than Joss’s love to kill ’em off)

First of all, one thing I have found about death is that it is the ultimate test of your faith. People with demons are often confused with people who like to have a good time. Help can generally be offered to someone that needs it, but, and I think Morpheus said it best, "I can only show you the door. Your the one who has to walk through it." In saying that Glenn, while your up there.... Fight the good fight, right! I don’t know a damn thing bout celebs that you can’t read on the internet, but he had to have been one helluva dude.. RIP my friend.

he didn’t lose his job on Angel because of it! how DARE they! He was originally going to be written out right from the beginning. I miss him so much. Everytime i watch ’Hero’ i cry even more because he died in real life. It just breaks my heart.

okay, i am FUMING! how DARE THEY say that about or Glenn.

“That had to make Dwayne’s mum proud, offsetting the fact that a junkie overdosed on her son’s couch.”

no way! they wake glenn, such a talented, kind and funny actor seem like some bum from the street.

Cause of death, Morphine Intoxication. An overdose of heroin. Accidental. Just an FYI, heroin shows up as morphine in autopsies. He was only 32. Autopsy reports are revealing.

And the quote “Sad considering that Glenn probably made more in a year than most "average" people make in a decade, and he pissed it all away on drugs.”

well if i ever find the person that wrote this article, well someone else will be writing their obituary.

This is a mean and cruel article about his death. I find it to be very inappropriate. Please remove this and find one that is not written in this context. Somethings should be kept private! I hope none of his family ever read this.
