James Marsters in ANGEL next Season !?

Monday 31 March 2003, by Webmaster

James Marsters just announced he will be joining the cast of Angel next season. (Spoilers)

I was at Grand Slam convention in Pasadena. During James Martsters Q and A, he said that the spinoff idea is still up in the air and may end up happening or might not. But he said that he was recently asked by Joss Whedon to join the cast of Angel next season. He has agreed, and he believes that Angel is definetly going to be renewed for a 5th season. This sounds like terrific information to me. What does everyone else think?

At the convention was Juliet Landau, Danny Strong, James Leary (Clem), Andy Hallett, Nick Brendon and James Marsters. No one but Nick and James gave plot info. Nick said something about him developing some sort of powers before the end of the show due to something that happens to him (Im guessing the Bringers cutting out his eye.) James just rehashed his old "the ending will be romantic, tragic, incredible, and the worst thing imaginable." Other than that most of the questions were of the "What is your favorite / least favorite episode...etc?"

Nick might have been joking about the powers thing. He was joking the whole time and not really giving anyone a straight answer. Someone asked him how it felt being the only non powered character on the show. He said...."it was great until they gave me these powers where I levitate." Honestly...I couldnt tell if he was joking or not. James didnt offer any plot points...but lets think about this for a sec. First, perhaps Spike is going to shansu or something, or even ANgel...therefore leaving us only one souled vamp. Maybe Angel and Spike work out differences on Buffy’s finale and Spike will be replacing Gunn as the brawn of the operation. I mean who knows. But lets think about one thing. James Marsters and Spike is a very very popular character. Some would argue the most popular character in the Buffyverse...including Angel. So maybe the WB’s condition for a 5th season renewal was the inclusion of James Marsters to the cast as an attempt to improve ratings.

If the only way to get a 5th season was with Spike...would you take it or would you let Angel be cancelled? He said "I will be joining the cast next season on Angel." Take from it what you want. I for want take that it means as a regular because later on he said "at least I will have at least one more season playing Spike."

Lets give Joss Whedon some credit. The guy is the genius who created these shows we have this wonderful message board about that we post on. If Joss is involved more and HE THINKS that Spike on Angel is a good thing...than give it a shot. I for one trust Joss. This is a GREAT THING

Spike moving to Angel? Posted by Billie on Wednesday, April 2 2003

With only five new Buffy episodes remaining before the end of the series, fans are in a major state of freak-out about the future of the franchise. That includes me, by the way.

Although there have been no official reports as yet, rumor has it that plans for a spinoff have been permanently derailed by Eliza Dushku’s defection to the proposed new Fox series, Heroine. This doesn’t mean there will never be a spinoff; we just won’t be getting one this fall.

And what about Angel? Angel’s ratings are consistent, but not fabulous. Creatively, Angel is having its best season yet. I love Angel for itself, but I must admit that losing it now would have extra added angst. No Buffy, no Angel, no spinoff? Too horrible to imagine.

But there’s hope. I’m still braced for the worst... but rumors and hints and other wonderful things are floating around the internet. It started (for me, anyway) with an article on Zap2it, in which Angel co-creator David Greenwalt says that he and Joss Whedon, Tim Minear, and Jeffrey Bell have talked with Fox and The WB about new plans for Angel’s next season. These plans would include major re-vamping :) of the main story line, and crossing over characters from Buffy. And, I quote, "a possible regular from the ’Buffy’-verse."

Of course, the first thing that galloped into my brain was, PLEASE LET IT BE SPIKE.
