Keith R.A. DeCandido - The Randy Bandits VS Buffy The Vampire Slayer in New York

Friday 17 November 2006, by Webmaster

NEW YORK CITY’S HARMONIOUS OUTLAWS FACE-OFF WITH STAR TREK, SPIDER-MAN, AND BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER AUTHOR KEITH R.A. DeCANDIDO IN NO-GEEKS BARRED CONCERT AND BOOK READING

Eclectic Electric Americana Music meets Klingon Vampire Sci-Fi Prose Set for Dec. 1 at The Knitting Factory, NYC

NEW YORK - THE RANDY BANDITS, cult NYC band, are known for creating events, not just concerts. Most recently they teamed with the cast of BROADWAY’S RING OF FIRE for an evening that could only be described as "Broadway Ol’ Opry." Now they’re determined to explore the hitherto undercharted territory of Rock Concert/Sci-Fi Book Reading and signing.

KEITH R.A. DeCANDIDO is an award-winning author of many novels based on television, comic book, video game, and movie franchises, as well as his own fantasy-detective fiction. He is widely recognized by Star Trek fiction fans as a preeminent author of Klingon fiction. His latest Buffy the Vampire Slayer book BLACKOUT, taking place during the infamous Summer of Sam 1977, is now available at major retailers (published by Simon Spotlight Entertainment). Mr. DeCandido will be reading from his new book and signing all of his novels while THE RANDY BANDITS play music before, during and after. Also on the bill are the horn-happy jesters of musical madness, THE K’S.

The Randy Bandits music combines genre-defying musicality of The Band, the earthy sincerity of Wilco, the quirky pop smarts of Ben Folds Five, the walking contradictions of Kris Kristofferson, and the soulful message of Curtis Mayfied for a welcome respite from the irony, detachment and jadedness found in much of today’s new music. THE RANDY BANDITS present THE RANDY BANDITS vs. BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Friday, Dec. 1 in the Tap Bar at the Knitting Factory, 74 Leonard St., New York City. Show time is 8 p.m., with The K’s and other musical guests. Tickets $10. Info: 212-219-3132 or www.knittingfactory.com.

Released in February of 2006, THE RANDY BANDITS album REDBEARD encapsulates THE RANDY BANDITS’ quest to put out new music in an entertaining way, to captivate fans (a.k.a. Fandits) with sincerity as well as lunacy, and to do something meaningful in a culture and business currently deluged with artifice and irony. The songs on REDBEARD swing from Rock to Country to Bluegrass to Jazz to Soul to Blues to Gospel with lots of hybrids, a jillion instruments traded amongst the musicians, and soaring vocal harmonies. REDBEARD was produced by legendary pop icon Richard X. Heyman and is currently on sale at iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, and Kim’s Music in New York. Visit www.randybandits.com for more banditry.
