New Stories For The Buffy-verse ?

Popular "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" characters may have new stories coming to a DVD store near you, according to SciFI Wire.

"There are serious discussions going on about bringing some of the characters back and making a few movies that will go straight to DVD," said Marti Noxon, executive producer of UPN’s "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" in its final run. Despite the poor reputation that straight-to-DVD movies have, Noxon assures that the new Buffy-verse movies will be of the same quality fans have grown to expect.

In light of continued fan interest in a big-budget Buffy film, creator Joss Whedon is considering a series of movies that would focus on some of the secondary characters, said Noxon.

According to TV Guide, past writers of the show, Drew Goddard and Tim Minear, are under consideration. Noxon confirms that some have been contacted about turning in script ideas.

Considering their move to movies, it is doubtful that Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Buffy, or Alyson Hannigan, who played Willow, will reprise their roles. In addition, Hannigan is now a regular on the hit CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother."

Noxon believes the best bet for a Buffy-verse film would center on Spike, who was played by James Marsters, now appearing in a recurring role on The WB’s "Smallville." Or, possibly Angel, played by David Boreanaz, who is a cast regular on Fox’s "Bones."

Noxon, who is currently a consulting producer on Fox’s "Prison Break," isn’t — at this point — involved in writing any of the DVD movie scripts; however, she said that she could be in the future. She wrote several episodes of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" between 1997 and 2003, as well as an episode of its spin-off "Angel" in 1999. At present, she is working with director Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan on rewriting a script idea of theirs, tentatively titled "The Curse."
