Who Do You Think Should Be Nominated For A Genre Award?

SyFy Portal looks for reader input in its annual online awards

(May 17 2006) - It has honored people like Ben Browder, Jeri Ryan and George Lucas. Television shows such as "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Stargate SG-1" and "Farscape." And now you have a chance to be a part of it all.

The official nominating committee for the annual SyFy Genre Awards have put together their preliminary list of nominees for this year’s awards, which begin June 25. But they want to know what you, the avid reader of SyFy Portal and even more avid watcher of science-fiction and fantasy television think should be nominated as well.

So from now until May 25, we’re accepting what you feel should be nominated in the following categories: Best Actor/Television, Best Actress/Television, Best Supporting Actor/Television, Best Supporting Actress/Television, Best Young Actor (under 22), Best Episode/Television, Best Series/Television, Best Special Guest/Television, Best Actor/Movie, Best Actress/Movie, Best Movie, and the Gene Roddenberry Lifetime Achievement Award. We’re also looking for nominations for Best Genre Web Site (for any site OTHER than SyFy Portal).

The major rule is that the television show or movie had to air for the first time in the United States between March 1, 2005 and May 31, 2006. Because of this rule, there are two shows that have become eligible for ALL categories. Those are "Firefly" and "Wonderfalls" since unaired episodes were shown for the first time during our eligibility period on SciFi Channel and Logo. Only the previously unaired episodes are eligible for specific categories, but the shows also are eligible for Best Actor/Actress and Best Series.

This will be the seventh year for the SyFy Genre Awards, which has become the largest virtual awards on the Internet. Fans can vote for their favorites in more than a dozen categories between June 25 and July 25, once per day per IP/e-mail address, and winners are announced in late July/early August.

So send us who you think should be nominated. Simply send an e-mail with your choices to syfyrocks@aol.com. Your choices will then be forwarded on to our nominating committee, who will seriously consider each and every suggestion.

PLUS, one lucky submitter (randomly drawn) will win a Season 2 soundtrack of "Battlestar Galactica" when it’s released on June 20, courtesy of SyFy Portal, The music from the critically-acclaimed SciFi Channel series is composed by Bear McCreary, who has been featured on the site in the past. Of course, no purchase necessary, and you must be at least 18 to win.
